Each edition of this Christmas Story theme, clearly shows Wiinblad's intention to create a very special, even sumptuous work - a reminiscence of richly decorated relics and odes about artistic handicraft in the past. The various colors together with golden and silver decorations turn each Porcelain Christmas Plate into a valuable collector's item. Only very few porcelain plates ever produced have involved this much craftsmanship. All Rosenthal Christmas Plates, in porcelain as well as in glass, are limited editions, manufactured only during the respective year each represents.

Bjorn Wiinblad comments on his Rosenthal edition "Christmas Carols on Porcelain" as follows:  "In my work I draw inspiration mainly from two things: music and literature. It always gives me the greatest of pleasure to allow myself to be inspired by an opera or ballet. But it is not only the works of great musicians which inspire me. A simple folksong is just as charming and appealing. That's why, when Rosenthal asked me to design a new series, I decided to illustrate on porcelain a choice selection of the world's most beautiful Christmas carols. I have attempted to capture in visual terms the mood created by the music and lyrics, in other words, the pictures which form in our minds when we close our eyes and listen to the Christmas carol. And I am particularly pleased at this opportunity of again being able to combine music with my creative work in porcelain design."

Bjorn Wiinblad Glass Christmas Plates

Any color that the glass plates are hung or sat on, will show through the clear glass. For the purpose of these pictures, the plates are resting in a black plastic holder.

Bjorn Wiinblad Aladdin Series

The Aladdin collectors' plates tell the story of one of the best known figures in The Thousand and One Nights. Aladdin, fortune's favorite, who discovers the world's greatest treasure and emerges unscathed from even the most perilous situations. Bjorn Wiinblad tells the story in masterly fashion in twelve scents, portraying the twelve most important stages in Aladdin's progress. Each plate is painstakingly decorated in brilliant colors on intense cobalt blue. The valuable gold ornamentation enhances the effect of the illustrated scenes. Wiinblad's colors and draughtmanship do full justice to the splendor of the Oriental tales.
